1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Summit ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Summit is a web application that:

  • Extracts transcripts from YouTube videos in their original language
  • Performs sentiment analysis on video content
  • Generates AI-powered summaries on demand
  • Allows users to import and manage YouTube playlists
  • Provides channel browsing and favorite management features

Note: The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use only.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Registration

To use the Service, you must:

  • Sign in with a valid Google account
  • Be on the approved user list (invitation-only during beta)
  • Be at least 13 years of age
  • Provide accurate and complete information

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your Google account
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access

3.3 Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the profile menu. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

4.1 Permitted Use

You may use the Service to:

  • Analyze YouTube videos for personal research and learning
  • Extract and store transcripts for reference
  • Generate summaries for content comprehension
  • Organize videos by playlists and channels

4.2 Prohibited Activities

You must NOT:

  • Use the Service for commercial purposes without authorization
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits or security measures
  • Access or scrape the Service using automated tools or bots
  • Redistribute, resell, or sublicense content from the Service
  • Violate YouTube's Terms of Service or copyright laws
  • Upload malicious code or attempt to compromise system security
  • Impersonate other users or entities
  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others

5. Content and Intellectual Property

5.1 YouTube Content

All video content, transcripts, and metadata belong to their respective copyright holders. The Service merely facilitates access to publicly available information from YouTube.

5.2 User Data

You retain ownership of any data you submit to the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a license to process and store your data as necessary to provide the Service.

5.3 Service Content

The Service's design, code, and original features are owned by Summit and protected by intellectual property laws.

6. Rate Limits and Quotas

To ensure fair usage and system stability, the Service enforces the following limits:

  • Video Analysis: 10 videos per hour per user
  • Playlist Import: 5 playlists per hour per user
  • Channel Browsing: 100 channels per hour per user
  • Global Limit: 100 videos per hour across all users

These limits may be adjusted at our discretion to maintain service quality.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with:

  • Google OAuth: For authentication
  • YouTube Data API: For video metadata
  • OpenAI API: For AI-powered summaries

Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies.

8. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

8.1 Service Availability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Accuracy of transcripts or summaries
  • Availability of specific videos or channels
  • Compatibility with all devices or browsers

8.2 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Summit shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
  • Damages arising from third-party services (YouTube, Google, OpenAI)
  • User actions or content accessed through the Service

Maximum Liability: Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service (currently $0 for free tier users).

8.3 YouTube API Quota

The Service relies on YouTube Data API v3 with a daily quota limit. If quota is exceeded, some features may be temporarily unavailable until the next reset (midnight Pacific Time).

9. Privacy

Your use of the Service is subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

10. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service:

  • For violation of these Terms of Service
  • For abusive or excessive use
  • If required by law or regulatory authority
  • At our discretion to protect the Service or other users

Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Service. Provisions regarding intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitations of liability survive termination.

12. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction where the Service is operated, without regard to conflict of law principles.

13. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these terms or use of the Service should first be addressed through our contact form. If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration.

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
